struggle, most ideological reservations ought be subordinated. Regarding this fundamental issue he and KUBARK may be at odds. In serving as our principal working level liaison contact, he has not resisted the temptation to try parlaying it into political power vis-a-vis AMBIDEX-1, a fact that has obviously not escaped AMBIDEX-1's notice. Without impugning AMBIDEX-1's good faith, we have reason for believing that on occasion he has conveyed our views in the garb of KUBARK criticism of AMBIDEX-1's capabilities, etc., with a personality planner and, it appears, has left AMBIDEX-1 with the completely erroneous impression that we were taking sides in the factional dispute involving AMBIVA, in essence backing AMBIVA-19 against AMBIDEX-1. In advising AMBIDEX-1 on the pros and cons of dismissing AMBIVA (?), AMBIVA-19 told AMBIDEX-1 that dismissal would in all probability spell a break with KUBARK which he must have been aware of, which we subsequently remainder, ran completely counter to KUBARK's oft stated position that personnel matters are in AMBIDEX-1's hands. By implication, at least, he may have reinforced AMBIDEX-1's suspicions that AMBIVA was linked with KUBARK. Actually AMBIDEX-1 has not been unduly influenced by AMBIVA-19; continuous harping on the threat posed by AMBIVA-1 (AMBIVA-19 was never shaken in his conviction that AMBIVA-1 receives KUBARK support). Another bee noise has reared its ugly head in the person of Oliva.

5. AMBIVA-19's ideological preoccupations have seriously detracted from his performance as a liaison contact. As a tireless proponent of AMBIVA and as a source of personality friction, his departure would be no loss. The new KUBARK undoubtedly has a much clearer understanding of the interlock between AMBIDEX and AMBIVA, although we shall have to follow the course of events before accepting AMBIVA-19's replacement as a net gain. We have also surgically supported him through the death. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his leadership in the impending rift and for his support of our views on AMBIDEX's public decisions. It is entirely possible that weight of KUBARK's support behind AMBIDEX-1. Through his own discipline and a degree of good luck, AMBIDEX-1 has emerged from the factional crisis stronger than ever. But AMBIDEX-1's strength is not the result of AMBIVA-19's weakness; fairness to AMBIVA-19 compels us to admit that he was the first to articulate the need for AMBIDEX-1's survival. In sum, we are indebted to AMBIVA-19 for his role in the crisis, but, by his very nature, he is not the man for the future. We have urged AMBIDEX-1 to consider his replacement and to rid himself of his remaining AMBIVA-19's. This is a matter of considerable importance and we shall continue to press for a decision. Any immediate remarks upon the conduct of AMBIDEX affairs.
