Our Havana Triple Spy Helped & Hurt Castro

"I was a spy," Frank Sturgis admits. He was involved in assassination plots and conspiracies to overthrow several foreign governments, including Cuba, Panama, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti.

He organized raids and ran into Cuba in 1958 to assist Fidel Castro's guerrilla forces in their overthrow of the Batista regime. He also smuggled boatloads of secret documents and weapons into Havana.

But Sturgis also spied for the CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies. He was a double agent, working for both sides in Cuba, and he admits that he was a triple agent.

"I was a triple agent," he says. "I worked for Castro, the CIA, and the Mafia."

Sturgis, who was arrested in the Watergate break-in, says he was involved in a number of assassination plots against Castro. He says he was also involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion and other anti-Castro activities.

Sturgis says he was recruited by the CIA in 1958 while he was working as a pilot for Castro's forces. He says he was asked to gather intelligence on Castro's activities and to report back to the CIA.

Sturgis says he was also involved in a plot to assassinate Castro in 1961. He says he was asked to plant a bomb in Castro's car, but the plot was foiled when Castro changed his travel plans.

Sturgis says he was also involved in a plot to overthrow the government of Panama in 1959. He says he was asked to smuggle weapons into Panama and to organize a coup against the government.
